To Be More Like Christ

Scripture Reference: Job 1 - 42
Key Verses: Job 1:1, 1:20 - 22; 13:15; 42:10

What does to be more like Christ mean to you?  This thought has been on my mind for several weeks.  When I think about it I am reminded of Job.  The bible says that Job was a man who was perfect, upright, one that feared God, and eschewed evil.  (Job1:1)  As I recall his story I am reminded that he maintained and trusted God through adversity and tribulation.

Thinking about Job and the phrase to be more like Christ brings to remembrance numerous scripture which helps me realize the first way that helps me to become more like Christ is through reading the word of God daily.  I would not know the story as it is written without reading the word of God.  The word of God is our spiritual food that helps us gain, wisdom, and knowledge to live a christian life daily.

As I read the word of God the Lord will speak to me where I gain direction for my life.  The direction may come in things I must do or in things I need to change.  Change is good and a necessity for growth in the kingdom of God.  A part of change is conviction from God which requires humility and a willingness to do right.  The only way we can learn to do right is through reading and studying the word of God.

Job also teaches that in all things to give thanks!  It is easy to be thankful when things are going our way yet it is imperative to be thankful at all times.  Thankful in good times and in bad times shows forth our faith and trust in God.

There are several other traits that Job has and they are as follows:  he was a praying man, unwavering and steadfast, and he was kind.  When Job's so-called friends came to him in spite of their accusations Job was kind.  Job's kindness demonstrates that we should continue to walk in love and to show kindness no mater what.

Just as Job prayed throughout the trials and tribulation it was when he prayed for his friends that his captivity turned (Job 42:10)  and we was more blessed in the later in than in the beginning.  From this study I've learned to be more like Christ means that I must pray, read the word of God, be willing to change, humble myself, do what is right, be pleasing, unwavering, humble myself and stand trusting God!
